Who is Getting Hired During a Pandemic?

Believe it or not, despite the challenges of the pandemic, there are still jobs to be filled.

The reality is, though, that there are a lot of job seekers out there competing for those jobs.

Don't lose faith!

You can be one of those job seekers who goes the extra mile and lands one of those jobs!

I can feel your eye-roll from here...but trust me, you can find work.

The first vital thing to understand is that you must find the work. Don't expect the work to find you.

Second, you must make your job search your job right now. Success won't come from searching random job postings, half-heartedly completing online applications and hoping for the best.

The first thing you can do is to take control of your schedule. Do a time audit. Record everything you do from the moment you wake up until you go to bed. Take stock of how you spend that precious commodity - time.

Evaluate how you spend your days.

Then determine what needs to change.

Do you do your job search in the daytime? No? You should.

Do you spend some time in meditation or practicing gratitude? No? You should.

Do you make nutritious meals and eat on a regular schedule? No? You should.

Do you spend time networking? No? You must!

Do you take time for movement (exercise, yoga, a walk in nature)? No? You must!

Do you manage your mental health and attitude? No? You must!

Now, make a plan for the next week. Map out your time and build in the things that are "musts", then the things that are "shoulds". Ideally, the accumulated time you spend on these activities will equate to approximately 8 hours per weekday, and a couple of hours a day on weekends.

At the end of the week, review your successes and assess how well you were able to stick to your commitment to your wellness and your job search. Don't beat yourself up if you didn't quite reach your goals. Try to understand why you think you missed the mark. Then start the new week fresh!

After some practice, you will get into a groove that works for you.  The "shoulds" will become part of your routine. The "musts" will become automatic priorities in your day to day life.
