Discouraged? Frustrated? Is Your Job Search Wearing You Down?
Let's face it - we all have "those" days. We are tired, discouraged, frustrated and feel as if we'll never reach our goals. We haven't heard from any of the recent applications we've submitted. We feel like giving up.
You are not alone.
You're dealing with a pandemic and lockdowns; it's winter here in Canada so it's cold and often dreary; you feel isolated and miss working; your money is tight and it feels like you're stuck.
What to do now?
Maybe it's time to take a day off from the job search. Get some rest. Regroup. Meditate. Reflect on gratitude and seek out the positive things about you and your progress.
Take a walk outdoors if you can.
Do something creative.
Restart your job search process. Plan a schedule for the week ahead. Schedule in everything: your meals, your exercise, your meditation practice, your job search activities. Then implement that plan and follow the schedule as closely as possible. I guarantee you will feel better at the end of the week.
If your thoughts are more concerning than feeling discouraged, be honest with yourself and seek help.
If you feel depression sneaking in, take action right away. Talk to a friend, consult with your doctor, seek out counselling, and focus on healing and mental health.
Trying to prepare resumes and cover letters and reviewing job postings and networking when you are suffering from depression is so difficult. It's ok not to be ok. It's ok to focus on self care and to find ways to be mentally healthy.
Only you know what you need right now.
Can you manage one day of feeling crummy? You bet you can.
Can you reach out for some help when the crummy days are outnumbering the good days? Do your best to do this. Let someone know you need support and let them help you if you don't feel able to do it alone.
What do you do when you feel crummy? Please share your wisdom by leaving a comment so others can see that they are not alone.
Because you are not alone.
